Sub-voxel Medial Axis traces

Gaile's Face

Gaile's face was scanned a few years ago using a laser scanner. I first extracted the frontal part of her face from the original cloud of datapoints by simple clipping. Then I processed this cloud of point - shown as yellow dots below - using my sub-voxel tracing of medial sheets - shown as white dots - combined with my 3D wavefront propagation algorithm. There are 12623 points in this datasets (input to the wavefront algorithm). It takes a few minutes to run on my workstation (SGI Indigo2), over the local network.

Input Data

Views at face data with associated grey level intensity. Note the holes in the data.

Medial Sheets : Internal symmetries

Original cloud of datapoints as yellow dots; computed symmetry sheets sub-voxel traces as white dots.

Medial Sheets : External symmetries

Original cloud of datapoints as yellow dots; computed symmetry sheets sub-voxel traces as white dots.
