Examples where powerful geometrical modeling should be useful:
- 1.
- Produce a spare part when original drawings or specifications of components
are no longer available (e.g. think of older car parts, made before the systematic
use of CAD systems - not so long ago).
- 2.
- Modify the design of an existing part to permit new simulations.
- 3.
- Permit to efficiently model interactions and joints/blends between components,
by preserving key object features.
- 4.
- Provide ``appearance'' modification tools, i.e., make available shape processes
to stylists: increase the existing appeal of the object, e.g. make a ``visible''
car part more pleasing to the eye, provide 2nd (or higher) order continuity
between the constituent surface elements, etc.
