MIRAGE - Shape: Surface based Models & Applications

Bust of Nefertiti reassembly - Top-Left: 3 subsets of (x,y,z) data points, each constituting 3D surface measurements of one of the fragments in to which a bust in Bottom-Right has broken. Top-Right: Shaded images of algebraic surface (IPS) that have been fitted to each of the data subsets. Bottom-Left: Resulting IPS aligned to represent unbroken bust. Degrees of IPS used were chosen arbitrarily and are single 4th degree for hat, single 6th degree for the large portion of face and head, and single 8th degree for neck and shoulders.

Left: Initial head data set. Middle: 10th degree fit (ears discarded). Right: Reconstruction of 12 patches using 4th degree IPS for each such patch.
