"I will talk about a global approach for curvature calculations. We study the contact between a surface and the spheres tangent to it. Suppose the sherds are from symmetric potteries, then the contact curve will be an elliptic curve for one of the spheres of curvature. By finding that sphere, we can find the profile and line of symmetry corresponding to each sherd."
