Abstract
We will focus on two points:
-
We present a review of two ceramic construction techniques and an
archaeological method employed in the reconstruction of pottery via
manual drawing techniques. The manual drawing technique still used in
Archaeology cannot give a complete reconstruction of the ceramic. This
method could be improved by the applications provided of 3D data
visualization to provide better results.
-
We present the problem of accessibility of archaeological data as
visual information. We consider the quantity of ceramic recovered on
archaeological sites: the way they are used for registration, and the
place they have in archaeological reports in terms of illustration. We
conclude that a new approach to database management is needed combined
with 3D visualization.
Speakers:
Fabienne and Diane, from Sorbonne, are visiting us over the 2001-2
academic school year. They are pursuing their PhD in archaeology with a
focus on new technologies (including VR and scientific visualization).
