The layout of the primary visual cortex will be introduced via results from cortical imaging. Maps of the diverse visual modalities will be presented. (Problems of image analysis will be briefly discussed.)
Cortical imaging is shown to serve as a springboard for depicting the cortex as an assembly of interacting neuronal populations. The derivation of kinetic models for neural populations will be described. Results from mathematical analysis, simulation and comparison with experiment will be discussed.
