MIDAS: A Multimedia Database for Archaeological Sites is an archaeological database being built to facilitate recording, cataloguing, conserving, restoring and presenting archaeological artefacts, monuments and sites. In this talk, we will review existing approaches for modeling data, give a brief summary of existing database management systems, review content-based retrieval systems and discuss design principles of MIDAS. We will also demo the first prototype of MIDAS.
